Service Members, Veterans and Families (SMVF)

Overview

The Service Members, Veterans and Families (SMVF) Program is designed to increase the availability and accessibility of supportive services for military-connected families across Texas. The program provides holistic, family-centered care that strengthens family functioning, builds resilience, and promotes long-term stability.

Priority Characteristics
To be eligible, family must present at least two (2) of the following:

  • Behavioral concerns (child or caregiver)
  • Childcare access concerns
  • Past/current alcohol abuse (caregiver or youth)
  • Past/current substance use (caregiver or youth)
  • Past/current child maltreatment or CPS involvement
  • School conflict or engagement concerns
  • Criminal justice involvement (caregiver or youth)
  • Domestic/interpersonal violence
  • Developmental delay or disability (caregiver or child)
  • Family dynamics/structure concern
  • Household conflict
  • High stress level
  • Housing instability/homelessness
  • Pregnant caregiver under 21
  • Low-income household
  • Low school attainment (caregiver)
  • Mental health concern (caregiver or youth)
  • Parenting skills concern
  • Lack of social support

 

Eligibility

Military Connection (Required)
At least one must apply:

  • Active-Duty Service Member
  • National Guard / Reserve
  • Veteran
  • Transitioning Service Member
  • Military Caregiver
  • Surviving Spouse
  • Dependent Child (0–17 years old)
